Castle Hill Resort and Spa

Cavendish, VT

Tucked in the Green Mountains of Vermont, this country house turned Vermont hotel was once the dream of Alan Miller Fletcher, who served as governor of Vermont from 1912 until 1915. Locally quarried stone graces its façade, while intricately carved California redwood and ornamental plasterwork bring warmth and elegance throughout the interior. Castle Hill was even the first home in the state to be fully wired for electricity. Each floor was also outfitted with nickel-plated faucets that would accommodate a hose in the event of fire. The structure has retained many of Fletcher’s desired architectural elements, including the grand staircase, original wallpaper, and Tiffany light fixtures.
